Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI) evolves

July 11 2023

The Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI) has evolved into the newly established National Protective Security Authority (NPSA), the UK Government’s national technical authority for physical and personnel protective security.

Established in 2007, the CPNI provided security advice, guidance and best practice to organisations working across the UK’s critical national infrastructure.

An arm of the UK Security Service, the NPSA has incorporated the responsibilities of CPNI, while establishing a ‘broader remit’, which extends beyond security threats to critical national infrastructure, although this will remain a fundamental part of the agency’s work.

The creation of this new Government authority, which launched in March 2023, has seen the NPSA announce a new mission to ‘build resilience to national security threats’, with involvement across new areas, including emerging technologies and research and academia.

Rhino Doors has been producing doors since 1983, but with increasing terrorist threats in the late 1990s came the need to design and manufacture doors capable of protecting people and assets in the face of security threats.

Our sliding-folding door was the first Rhino product to be redeveloped and achieve a UK accredited security rating and, since then, many of our door designs have been adapted to meet the requirements of NPSA, including undergoing security evaluations and testing processes.

Stuart Lawrence, Group Managing Director at Rhino Engineering Group, said: “For many years, Rhino has worked extensively within critical national infrastructure, designing and manufacturing engineered door systems with the strength to protect.

“As the CPNI now moves forward and expands its areas of activity, we look forward to continuing to work closely with our clients, delivering products with the very best technical performance capabilities.”
