The Rhino Doors team have recently completed a large project for the new V&A Stratford East, working with our client 8Build. The V&A Stratford East is scheduled to open in 2025 and will be a unique new museum experience that will open the V&A collection to everyone. It will comprise the V&A East Storehouse and V&A East Museum. They are both part of East Bank, the Mayor of London’s £1.1 billion Olympic legacy project, which aims to create a new arts, innovation and education hub in Stratford’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The Rhino Doors team were delighted to be part of such an exciting project that will bring so much to the city and those who visit it.
The Project
Our role in the overall project was to design, manufacture and install an electrically operated sliding folding door for the loading bay at the V&A Museum. The size of the door was massive, 7 metres by 6 metres. In addition, the client wanted the doors created in a louvre panel design to tie in with the design of the building’s façade and made in a specific colour to match the building’s colour scheme.
Challenges
This project was interesting and challenging for the Rhino Doors team. We worked with multiple stakeholders on this project, which can throw up communication issues and challenges when ensuring everyone is happy at all stages, but our team handled this by maintaining excellent communication throughout.
The doors not only had to meet the design standards of multiple people but also had to maintain a high security rating. Our team created and performed tests on different prototypes to ensure the security rating while achieving the client’s desired finish.
Client Feedback
The Rhino Doors team were delighted to receive excellent feedback from the Project Director, Andrew Nightingale. His immediate feedback was, “Saw the video of the doors in operation yesterday and then first-hand this morning on site…to say I am impressed is an understatement.”
This feedback and the project’s success are a testament to our team’s knowledge, skill, and experience. They were unwavering in their commitment to delivering this work on time, on budget and to the client’s exact specifications.
