Fire test success for London Underground project

September 01 2021

Rhino Doors has successfully fire tested its bespoke doors designed for the cross passages of London’s Moorgate Station, with the doors far exceeding expectations.

As part of its major new contract with Transport for London, Rhino put the performance of the double leaf fire doors to trial by testing for fire integrity from both sides of the door for 60 minutes, in accordance with EN1634-1.

The back-to-back tests, conducted in June 2021, far exceeded the 60-minute testing expectations and successfully achieved a 2-hour rating.

Dr Chris Norris, Group Engineering Director of Rhino Engineering Group, said: “Huge congratulations to the team at Rhino, who, with the support of our client, Transport for London, have fast-tracked the design and testing of this safety-critical fire door.

“With the door performance far exceeding the required integrity time, we now have an established and verified door design that will find applications not only in rail projects, but also in other market sectors requiring high-performance, stainless steel fire doors.”

The self-closing doors were specifically commissioned for use in Moorgate Station and must be carefully designed and undergo rigorous testing to meet safety standards.

The doors will provide passengers with reduced mobility a place of refuge during emergency situations and will feature panic bars and vision panels.
