GE Baglan Bay Power Station – 7mx7m Manual Folding Door
“Reference the sliding door you installed to the turbine hall at our Power Station. I remember with some horror the old roller shutter door we used to have, if my memory serves me correct the door blew in at least once a year annually when the strong winds blew from the North. Over several years your firm attended site to replace lathes, side guides and various fixings. The final failure and most dangerous occurrence was when the door horizontal lathes blew in to the turbine hall narrowly missing one of our production operators.
We finally took on board your recommendations to fit a sliding door, and I must admit at the time I was a little apprehensive due to the size of the door but due to mechanical damage during use and climate damage due to weather conditions I realised that something had to be done. You fitted the new sliding door back in June 2010, and it has been one of the best decisions we have made. We only wish we had listened to you earlier instead of throwing good money after bad. I remember we tried several methods of getting the door strengthened by using stronger lathes and deeper side channels, none of which worked.
The new door you fitted is effortless to manually slide open or close. Due to its six section construction it can be fixed at any open width configuration and secured in place with the floor shoot bolts. We have not had any issues either mechanically or weather related since the installation 5 years ago. I would highly recommend this type of door to anyone else thinking of having one.”
